English Heritage sites recognised for serving sustainable & healthy meals
Abstract
English Heritage sites Gainsborough Old Hall and Bolsover Castle have achieved a Food for Life Served Here bronze certification from the Soil Association.

Food for Life Served Here certification rewards and recognises caterers who use sustainable ingredients, champion good practice and cook meals from scratch.

The certification verifies the food on the plate, supporting caterers to demonstrate their commitment to climate, nature, and health through the food purchased and served.

Dan Topliss, head of food and beverage at English Heritage, said: “With our tearooms and restaurants serving 4.3 million people a year, English Heritage recognises the importance of sustainable food, and has a passion for local and seasonal dishes.

“We are proud to now be Food for Life Served Here certified as it shows our commitment to servicing and sourcing our ingredients and the food that we offer our visitors.”

The tearoom at Gainsborough Old Hall serves a variety of freshly made home-cooked dishes, from Broad Oak Farm gluten free sausage sandwiches to tomato and basil soup as well as a selection of scones.

At Bolsover Castle, RSPCA Assured pork from West End Farm and slow-cooked Red Tractor Assured West Country beef brisket are on offer, alongside hot baguettes, homemade scones and soups.

Caron Longden, head of business development at Food for Life Served Here, added: “I would like to congratulate English Heritage on achieving bronze Food for Life Served Here certification at Bolsover Castle and Gainsborough Old Hall.

“All of us at Soil Association are proud to be supporting your clear commitment to sourcing and serving food that is better for climate, nature and health. A fantastic achievement, leading the way for visitor attractions, please do visit for a great day out with great food.”
