Head chef Ashley Robins from The Keystone pub in Guildford, Surrey, has been crowned 2009's Face of British Pie Week.

The Keystone was awarded the coveted pie prize for their Legendary Game Pie. Judging the competition was Martin Bates, CEO of the Craft Guild of Chefs; last year's British Pie Week champion Mike Greer, and Sally Baxter from Jus-Rol, who praised the finalists: "We were truly impressed with all five recipes, this year's judging was incredibly close and on behalf of Jus-Rol and the British Pie Week team we are delighted to congratulate Ashley on his win."

As part of their award the pub has won a cheque for £500, as well as the expertise of executive chef David Britton from the Cavendish Hotel, London, who will be hosting a development day with the pub and working on some new recipes with Ashley.

The winning chef commented: "I'm delighted the Legendary Game Pie has been recognised by the industry, homemade pies are such a big part of our menu and it's fantastic to have been awarded for our efforts."

Runners up were James Parsons, The Nothe Tavern, Dorset, by Ben Francis, The Chequers Inn, Hertfordshire, Paul Cooke, The Dog & Muffler, Gloucestershire, and David Hallows, The Cock & Bull, Cumbria.
