A taste of Yorkshire to come

15th February 2008, 12:05pm

Organisers of this year’s Wakefield Festival of Food, Drink and Rhubarb have signed up to Deliciouslyorkshire for the first time to help increase awareness of the range of food and drink from Yorkshire, and to encourage people to by more locally and to support the regional economy.

The annual festival will be held on 7-8 March on the Cathedral Precinct. There will be two marquees, with one hosting cookery demonstrations and the other, exhibitions. There will also be food tastings, rhubarb farm tours, guided walks and the Deliciouslyorkshire market.

Products on show will include sausages, rare breed pork products and organic breads, as well as modern takes on traditional products such as spicy mixes, pickles and omega oil-packed venison.

Restaurants, cafes and bars in the city centre will also be offering locally produced themed dishes including the magical rhubarb ingredient.

Deliciouslyorkshire's Jonathan Knight commented: "There is a huge growth in demand for local produce and the Deliciouslyorkshire brand is the public's assurance that produce really is local."

Exhibitors under the Deliciouslyorkshire banner include Curry Cuisine, the Blue Pig Company, World Top Brewery, Robinson's Pork Butchers and Raydale Preserves.
