ADRIAN'S SANDWICH FALLS JUST SHORT

Having taken the British title with his sirloin steak based entry ‘Sunday Best’, bartlett mitchell chef Adrian Brown was pipped in the seven-nation final of the Délifrance Sandwich World Cup. The winner was a spicy chicken entry from Singapore.
“It has been the most amazing experience of my career,” said Adrian after the result was announced at the Palais des Congrès by a panel of experts including craft bakers and the head chef of the European Parliament.
“Winning doesn’t really matter because I’ve met some of the most influential people in international catering, I’ve had an insight into what other countries think makes a good sandwich and I’m really inspired by what can be achieved.”
Nellie Nichols, food consultant, who represented the UK on the judging panel, said it was clear that tastes still varied hugely among nations.
“It was interesting to see competitors using ingredients favoured by their nation. The French entry contained sardines and seaweed, which although it came third in the competition for its innovation, was very far removed from the British palate.”
