ARAMARK supports schools during British Food Fortnight

21st September 2010, 10:52am

The food service partner ARAMARK is supporting British Food Fortnight (BFF) by helping 50 schools to push British local sourcing up the consumer agenda.

It will also support seven Sure Start Centres in deprived areas across the UK. The centres are based in Manchester, London, Bristol, Nottingham, Newcastle, Southampton and Liverpool.

There will also be a series of cookery sessions hosted by ARAMARK chefs, designed to help teach parents where to buy healthy British seasonal food, improve their cooking skills and learn how to incorporate the recommended five a day into family meals.

The event is backed by the launch of ARAMARK's Great British Menu and recipe card "full of the best British classics to inspire home cooking and the use of local produce across its customer base".

The recipes, some of which have been developed by celebrity chefs, include "British favourites" such as fisherman's pie, parsnip soup and bread and butter pudding.

Corporate responsibility director, ARAMARK said: "So far the uptake has been impressive. Sure Start courses have been over-subscribed, for example the London sessions have had nearly three times as many attendees than was anticipated.

"ARAMARK has a long-standing partnership with British Food Fortnight and has committed to sponsoring until at least 2014.

"Supporting food education amongst the wider community is a big part of our ongoing CSR programme and BFF is a great vehicle for this. We're proud to be involved with so many schools and workplaces this year and look forward to creating an even bigger buzz in 2011."
