Alive in London

14th November 2007, 3:21pm

Hotelympia has firmly established itself as the UK’s leading international hospitality and foodservice showcase and has been an integral part of the industry for the past 75 years.

Hotelympia 2008 (17th–21st February) at ExCeL, London is all set to continue the trend with the promise of an even bigger show and in excess of 40,000 visitors.

Hotelympia is now three shows in one, thanks to the adjoining events, Hostec Europe, a dedicated event for technology in the hospitality industry which has been an important part of Hotelympia for the past 4 shows, and Careers in Hospitality, the show that launched in 2006, and is now set to build on those solid foundations to be even bigger in 2008.

Also set to expand on its introduction at the last show is the Hotelympia 10K run which will see over 1000 participants take part for the hospitality industry charity, Springboard, as the starting gun signifies the start of Hotelympia 2008.

In addition to firm show favourites such as Live Theatre and La Parade (sponsored by Delice de France), and The Skillery (in association with The Craft Guild of Chefs) a host of new and exciting features, which are guaranteed to educate as well as entertain, will make their debut at Hotelympia 2008.

Craft Guild of Chefs will host The Skillery

The first of these will be the Sustainable Futures Theatre (organised by the Institute of Hospitality) where visitors will be able to learn more about what the industry is doing to provide a socially responsible future. From food miles to ethical sourcing, sustainability continues to be the buzzword in business and those that practice it well, can give themselves a march on the competition.

The World of Coffee is a brand new feature for 2008 where visitors will be able to discover more about the journey from bean to cup with a programme of instructive seminars aimed at delivering a business benefit to operators of all types.

The Semi-Finals of the UK Barista Championships will take place within the feature on the Tuesday and Wednesday with the Final happening on the Thursday providing visitors the opportunity to marvel at the skills of world-class baristas.

The Cost Sector Catering Live Theatre (sponsored by Heinz), will have a daily sector focus covering the armed forces, universities and hospitals.

In addition to the new features the show will also boast a revised look this year with 4 key new areas:

Tabletop:
With cutlery, crockery, glassware/stemware and linen helping to give style and design to your establishment, the need to source the very best is imperative. Tabletop will bring together a host of suppliers showcasing the best new products with everything from the most functional tableware and glassware to the very best in fine dining.

Decor and Design: From the inside or outside, the design of your establishment can dramatically enhance the guests overall experience. With consultants on hand to assist visitors this new area will include the Design Showcase (in association with GS Magazine), and will help to give inspiration and stimulation to visitors from all sectors of the industry.

Bathroom and Spa: A true area to indulge the senses as well as a real profit opportunity, bathrooms and spas can mirror the rest of a hotel. Make sure that you are up to date with the very latest products as well as aware of the opportunities that can evolve for a relatively small investment.

Premises and Facilities Management: Facilities management is one of the fastest growing professions in the UK and is very important to the hospitality industry. From air conditioning through to uniforms, energy management to guest amenities, this area is awash with suggestions and ideas.

Hotelympia is a must attend event for anyone involved in the hospitality industry, and is likely to produce pay back on transport costs within minutes of arriving!
