The launch comes at a time when care home managers anticipate a reassessment of their food offer ahead of the unveiling of the findings of the Care Quality Commission's review of 'meeting the healthcare needs of people in care homes' in November 2010.
Commenting on the launch, Lee Sheppard, business manager Care Homes, apetito said: "Uptake so far is extremely positive with 25 care homes already on board and more in the pipeline. Care homes have the flexibility of when to serve meals so they are only regenerated as and when needed, which in turn increases consumption and minimises wastage.
"Those charged with the care and feeding of older people are under closer scrutiny than ever before. Our expertise means we can help care homes deliver over and above existing guidelines to ensure that residents benefit from the very best in nutritional care."
Steve Geach, English Oak Care Homes added: "In terms of my business, the partnership with apetito has not only led to an improvement in the quality of our food provision and satisfaction of our residents, but has reduced the space given to the kitchen facility, allowing for an additional 15ft² bedroom with en suite and patio – adding around £30k annually to my bottom line."
