The award aims to encourage food businesses to provide healthier options to customers through the use of healthier catering practices, increasing fruit, vegetables, and starchy carbohydrates whilst decreasing fat, especially saturated fat, sugar and salt.
Usually awarded to businesses open to the public this award is one that companies can enter themselves. However, in the case of Artizian and Canon (where Artizian provides its catering services) it is even more special as it was a food hygiene inspector from the environment of health, who nominated the caterers after conducting a food safety audit at Canon's head quarters in October 2009.
Chris Piper, Artizian's commercial director, commented: "We are extremely pleased to have been recognised for this award. As an organisation we are totally committed to the provision of fresh, seasonal food and focus heavily on ensuring we offer healthy choices together with dietary information that allow our customers to make informed choices."
Canon UK & Ireland's managing director, Andy Vickers added: "Our people are our most important asset and our priority is to ensure a healthy and happy environment is shared by all which reflects our corporate philosophy of 'kyosei – living and working together for the common good.
"I am delighted Artizian has been rewarded for its good customer service and healthy locally sourced food and the desire to look after our employees."
