BSA selects Sodexo as its charity of choice

29th April 2009, 12:52pm

The British Sandwich Association (BSA) has selected the Sodexo Foundation to manage its STOP Hunger fundraising campaign, which aims to tackle poor nutrition in the local communities where the company operates.

The campaign is based on long-term relationships with partners such as FareShare, a national food redistribution charity, and other organisations that promote healthy eating and lifestyles. Through its donations, the Sodexo campaign aims to help provide food to those in need and offer basic life skills training such as cooking and food hygiene.

Receiving the majority of its contributions from employees' activities, STOP Hunger raised over £200,000 last year and has already enjoyed a strong start to 2009, with staff taking part in sponsored bike rides, parachute jumps and gym-a-thons in an attempt to repeat their success.

This year, their efforts will be supported by the hundreds of leading sandwich retailers, suppliers and manufacturers expected to attend the BSA's prestigious annual 'Sammies' awards at The Royal Lancaster Hotel in London on 21 May.

During the ceremony, guests will be given the opportunity to take part in a raffle and auction, the proceeds from which the BSA has pledged to the Sodexo Foundation.

Thomas Jelley, Sodexo's corporate citizenship manager, said: "We are thrilled the BSA has adopted the Sodexo Foundation's STOP Hunger campaign as its charity of choice for 2009. There have been some great fundraising efforts across the business so far this year, but we still have some way to go to meet our overall target. I am sure the BSA's support will be invaluable in helping us achieve it."

Jim Winship, director of the British Sandwich Association, added: "We are delighted to be lending our support to Sodexo's STOP Hunger campaign, which plays an important role in the promotion of healthy eating and lifestyle education."
