Brakes announce the winner of Best of British School Competition

Brakes has announced that Angel Foster, aged eight from Upton Junior School in Broadstairs, has won this year’s Brakes Best of British School Food Competition, in association with LACA and ASSIST.

The competition was designed to help bring British food into the classroom and offer schools an exciting children's competition to give them food for thought when it comes British produce.

Open to all junior aged pupils, the competition was launched in the summer to coincide with British Food Fortnight - the national event that celebrates and promotes British produce and fare. To enter the competition, junior school children simply needed to design a harvest festival poster to promote British Food and explain in no more than 30 words, why they think it is important to eat British Food.

Angel described why she thought it was crucial to eat British food; "I think it is important to eat British food because it supports your local farmer, it reduces CO2 emissions, keeps local jobs, its fresher and cheaper because its local."

She has won an all expenses paid trip for her class to a National Trust property of their choice and £200 worth of Brakes products that the school can donate to a local care home for Christmas celebrations.

Upton Junior School teacher Mary Owen said: "We are very proud of Angel, her poster showed creativity, a sense of fun and a genuine understanding of why it is important to eat British produce. The children are really pleased for her and are looking forward to their class trip and donating the Christmas hamper to our local care home."
