Calling for future food writers

18th December 2007, 10:49am

The Guild of Food Writers is calling out for talented young writers to enter the launch of their CookIt-WriteIt! Competition before the 21 April closing date, in addition to its annual CookIt! Competition for children.

The new competition is open to applicants aged between 15 and 18. Entrants are required to write a descriptive 750-word piece based on any food-related subject such as a visit to a restaurant, market or food shop, either in Britain or abroad.

The panel of judges will be looking for a lively descriptive piece that shows a real interest in knowledge of food.

And for the annual CookIt! Competition, the guild will be focusing on young cooks, aged between 10 and 14, who will be creating a two-course family meal for a special occasion using mainly fresh and healthy ingredients.

After the initial judging, six finalists will be chosen to prepare their recipes at the BBC Good Food test kitchens on 22 May. The closing date for entries is 7 April.

To submit entry forms and for further information on both competitions visit www.gfw.co.uk
