Catering Manager given NACC Lifetime Membership

The Catering and Domestic Service Manager for the Department of Health and Social Care is to be given Honorary lifetime membership to the National Association of Care Catering.

Colin Kennedy who has worked for the Council for 35 years will accept the membership later this year.

This award is given in recognition of services to the NACC as an association which Colin has supported since its creation 21 years ago.

Colin and his team provide advice, guidance and assistance in all matters relating to catering and dietetics to managers in Health and Social Care homes and day services.

The team takes part in nutritional screening to monitor the weight of older people coming into council care homes to ensure under-nutrition is addressed as soon as the older people become residents. Colin also administers the Frozen Meals Service and carries out all the food hygiene training for 2,000 Health and Social Care staff.

The frozen meals service is currently used by approximately 300 people who all receive a fortnightly delivery of nutritionally balanced meals which can be prepared when needed.

Colin Kennedy said: "I am over the moon my peer group have decided to confer on me lifetime membership to the NACC. The aim of the association has always been to promote and enrich the standard of catering within the care sector and this award reflects the input I have made through my work in Edinburgh which has contributed to the development of nationally recognised standards for care catering."

Cllr Paul Edie, Convener for Health and Social Care said: "I would like to congratulate Colin and his team for all their hard work in this area. Health and nutrition in our services is something the Council takes very seriously and this award gives recognition of the excellent work that is taking place in this area."
