Brian Turner with kids
The event was organised for over 300 secondary pupils at the Lea Green Activity Centre.
TV chef Brian Turner, who stars on the BBC's Ready Steady Cook and Saturday Kitchen, was joined by locally-based French and Indian chefs who demonstrated traditional cuisine and the sports hall was transformed into a French café.
Councillor Mike Longden, Derbyshire County Council cabinet member for education, said: "We're committed to giving young people the best possible start in life.
"Healthy eating and exercise are important for a young person's development and it was great to have someone as passionate about food as Brian Turner along to share his knowledge with them."
Schools taking part included Anthony Gell School, Wirksworth, The Meadows Commmunity School, Brookfield Community School and Parkside Community School at Chesterfield, Frederick Gent School, South Normanton, Heanor Gate Science College and Tibshelf Community School.
