Compass scoops Workplace Sandwich Supplier of the Year

At the recent British Sandwich Industry Awards 2009 – otherwise known as the Sammies – contract caterer Compass Group was declared Workplace Sandwich Supplier of the Year.

The top spot for the workplace category, which commends excellence in workplace sandwiches, was jointly taken by two of Compass' offerings: SO Deli and Origin Foods.

In order to secure the award, Compass had to impress the judges with the range, presentation, innovation and sales growth of its sandwiches.

The Origin Foods range is Compass' premium sandwich range which uses high quality and, where possible, free range ingredients such as the Yorkshire Ham Salad sandwich, made from pork leg from pigs born and reared entirely in Yorkshire and the West Country Farmhouse Cheddar Ploughmans sub made with twelve month matured cheddar from Barbers Farm, Somerset. All packaging is made from eco-friendly biodegradable plastic and recyclable cardboard.

SO Deli is an artisan-inspired delicatessen experience built upon the provenance of product and freshness of ingredient. Sandwiches in the range include the signature salami, mortadella, tomato, pesto and shaved parmesan and made-to-order choices are available from a selection of deli favourites.

John Pain, marketing director, Compass Group said: "The workplace is an interesting market for which to cater; in the face of recession, budgets are getting tighter but food quality must remain high and the choice varied so that customers can enjoy the selection, day in, day out. We are very proud to have won the Award for Workplace Sandwich Supplier of the Year but we are particulary delighted that two of our ranges were recognised."
