Compass wins contract for new Cardiff City Stadium

Compass Group has won a 10 year contract to operate all match day and non-match day catering and events at the Cardiff City Stadium, which opens in July.

The contract, which is worth £48m in turnover, includes food and beverages for 150 metres of public kiosks, 14 private hospitality boxes, two restaurants, a banqueting suite and a chairman's lounge. Compass Group has worked closely with Stadium Consultants Limited to design and fit out the catering and hospitality areas.

Compass Group's sports leisure and hospitality sector also runs the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff and the Liberty Stadium in Swansea.

The catering team has experience in operating newly built facilities such as the RICOH Arena in Coventry and the Aviva Stadium in Dublin, and understands the different catering needs of dual-purpose football and rugby stadia, such as the Liberty Stadium in Swansea and the Madejski Stadium in Reading.

Alan Flitcroft, chief operating officer, Cardiff City Football Club, said: "We selected Compass Group because of the quality of their offering, their expertise in running major stadia, and their proven ability to sell non-match day activities, such as conferences and exhibitions, through their Lime Venue Portfolio business."

Matthew Thompson, managing director sports, leisure and hospitality at Compass Group UK & Ireland, added: "Securing the contract at this new build stadium is a major win for the team and complements our existing sites in South Wales, the Millennium Stadium and Swansea's Liberty Stadium. It is testament to the team's ability to run major stadia that cater for different sporting events."
