Conservative MP for Carlisle appointed new role

7th July 2010, 12:11pm

The Conservative MP for Carlisle John Stevenson has been made Chair of the Food and Drink Manufacturing All party Parliamentary Group.

The MP was appointed to the role at the group's AGM held this month.
The APPG group deals with issues relating to the food and drink industry and works to raise awareness of key issues in the sector and provide a forum for debate and dialogue about manufacturing issues.

The APPG also takes the role of encouraging the government to avoid increasing regulation that they say can impact a business's ability to remain competitive in the current economic environment.

Stephenson said: "I am looking forward to the opportunities presented by chairing the Food and Drink Manufacturing APPG, which I hope will enable me to generate significant legislative support for an industry which offers world class capabilities in production, logistics, sales, marketing and innovation.

"By supporting the industry nationally, we can expect to reap the benefits closer to home in Carlisle, which remains a regional centre for manufacturing excellence."
