Considerate Hoteliers launches new sustainable award

26th February 2008, 12:57pm

The Considerate Hoteliers Association has launched a Sustainable Build and Refurbishment Award to recognise and commend hotels applying greener and more sustainable codes of practice.

The new sustainable award launched at Hotelympia last week, in association with G.S Magazine.

John Firrell, of Considerate Hoteliers Association, commented: "With more than 11,000 hotels rooms coming on line by 2010 and the approach of the 2012 'greenest ever' Olympics, the very definite needs for new hotels and those being refurbished to be modelled on sustainable and eco-friendly lines is paramount."

"The new Award is a way of raising awareness of the fact that, whether a refurbishment or a new-built project, a strong environmental approach at the planning and building stage will play a huge part in enabling an establishment to run a greener day to day business effectively and profitably in the years to come."

Other awards run by the Considerate Hoteliers Association include Water and Waste Management, Energy Saving, and Sustainable Food Sourcing.
