From 1st March, ARAMARK will be replacing its 2.27 litre semi skimmed milk packs with 1% milk across its onshore business portfolio.
The caterer will substitute approximately 1,364,987 litres - that equates to half an Olympic sized swimming pool - of semi skimmed milk with the new 1% milk during the course of a twelve month period.
The new 1% milk has 4.4g less saturated fat than semi skimmed milk per litre whilst keeping all the 'goodness' such as calcium, protein, vitamins and minerals. It will be available for use within ARAMARK food dishes and its hot beverage offerings across all customer sites.
Val Carter, corporate responsibility director, ARAMARK, said: "This is the first time we have taken such a massive step to de-list a product ready for replacement by a healthier option. The foodservice sector has not yet embraced the use of 1% milk and is something we are passionate about pioneering.
"This demonstrates our commitment to deliver real tangible health benefits to our customers. The initiative was instigated by Sue Johnson, Regional Managing Director London, and the London region team and supports the Food Standards Agency's ongoing programme which aims to reduce overall levels of saturated fat in the UK diet."
