Starting with the launch of new educational tools, such as new brochures and customer facing leaflets, Sodexo will be carrying out a number of activities over the next six months to celebrate the influence that Healthwise has had on its business since its inception in 1985; culminating in a birthday party at the end of September.
Other planned activities include the introduction of 'Healthwise Health Check Days' in May, where Sodexo's nutrition and dietetics team will offer health checks and advice to tie in with raising awareness of key health indicators through Sodexo's Better Tomorrow Plan. This will take place in Sodexo's key office locations and will also be implemented in client sites in order to benefit customers and on-site teams.
The contract caterer will also launch its 'pedometer challenge', where members of staff will be challenged to report the total number of steps they are taking each day, with a view to recording and comparing them with other parts of the business. The challenge is designed to raise awareness around the importance of being active in the workplace, whether an individual is office-based or in a Sodexo unit.
The birthday party in September will provide Sodexo with the opportunity to highlight progress made in understanding health and well-being issues since Healthwise was first introduced, and will be attended by senior Sodexo staff; Matt Dawson, Sodexo Ambassador, and key figures from the foodservice industry
Phil Hooper, corporate affairs director, Sodexo, said: "Whilst we have had an approach to healthy eating over 25 years, it is probably more important today than it ever was. Tackling poor nutrition, obesity and health & well-being is as high on the social and political agenda as ever before.
"Sodexo feeds over one million people every day, therefore, we see this as an opportunity to have a direct impact on positively influencing the health and well-being of a significant proportion of the population."
