Contract caterer Sodexo wins 'healthyliving award'

Contract caterer Sodexo has been presented with the 'healthyliving award' at an additional 31 of its sites in Scotland after demonstrating its commitment to providing healthier food options to its clients and consumers.

The sites include Strathallan School, the first independent school in Scotland to achieve the 'healthyliving plus award', six courts in which Sodexo operates, four Scottish Government sites including the Victoria Quay building and Langside College. All sites were presented with their certificates at a special awards ceremony which took place at The Beardmore Hotel in Clydebank.

To achieve the award, Sodexo had to meet standards based around the principles of eating a healthy balanced diet. At each site, Sodexo staff also put in to place an appropriate sales promotion and marketing strategy to encourage and support healthier eating.

Sodexo's recognition supports the company's 'Better Tomorrow Plan',  which aims to consolidate corporate citizenship efforts across operations by combining values and ethical principles, specific sustainability commitments and an assurance to engage with stakeholders.

Yvonne Traynor, 'healthyliving award' project manager, said: "The level of commitment shown by each of the Sodexo sites in producing healthy food is exemplary and they have set an industry benchmark which all organisations should strive to attain. Sodexo is helping so many staff as well as customers to make informed choices by making healthier options widely available, and in turn is playing its part in improving the diet of people across Scotland."

Sodexo believes that a healthy and varied diet can help enhance general well-being and is committed to providing more information and choice for customers to support a healthy lifestyle. Being awarded the 'healthyliving award' at so many of our sites in Scotland is a great achievement."

The 'healthyliving award', launched in 2006, is funded by the Scottish Government and managed by Consumer Focus Scotland. The criteria requires businesses to dish up healthier food by improving the way that it is prepared and highlighting the healthy options available.
