Cost Sector Chef winner Rob Kennedy of the Royal Military Academy

Cost sector chefs enjoy Craft Guild success

The 2010 Craft Guild of Chefs Awards last night proved an outstanding success for chefs in the cost sector with six winning in their nominated categories.

Altogether 16 leading caterers in the sector were acclaimed at the Lancaster London Hotel.

Robert Kennedy, executive head chef for Compass at the Royal Military Academy, won the Cost Sector Chef Award for his exceptional work across the site's seven restaurants and the support he gives his team.

The Banqueting Chef Award went to Sodexo Prestige executive chef Steve Golding, who masterminds catering at Royal Ascot where his team produces high quality food for more than 45,000 customers over five days.

Richard Bowden, senior executive chef for Eurest at Compass Group and a veteran on the competition circuit was awarded the Competition Chef Award.

Another win for Sodexo came with the Contract Catering Chef Award, which to Derek Reilly at the group's Hibernian Aviva contract in Dublin.

The Development Chef Award went to Phil Rimmer, head development chef at apetito for his work in developing a range of texture modified meals for the elderly and those with swallowing difficulties.

And Ayr College's section head of food studies Norman Robertson, who was awarded an MBE in the New Year honour's list, was the winner of the Education Chef Award.

Runners up were Brian Canale of Heritage Portfolio and Simon Firth MC Hospitality (Banqueting); Mark Hill from the House of Commons and Mathew Shropshall from the University of College Birmingham (Competition); Gary McKechnie from Harbour & Jones and Mark Wetherill from Sodexo (Contract Catering); Robin Turner from Sodexo and Tracy Winfield from Alfreton Grange Arts College (Cost Sector); Gary McDowell from Silver Hill Foods and Sanjay Sighat from The Authentic Food Company (Development); and Ian Jaundoo from Liverpool Community College and Michael Kitts from the Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management (Education).
