David Fairhurst awarded honorary doctorate from Middlesex University

David Fairhurst, senior vice-president and chief people officer for McDonald's in the UK, has received an honorary doctorate degree from Middlesex University in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the Human Resources sector.

Fairhurst, who is also chairman of People 1st, has set out to break down the gap between perception and reality and to promote and develop McDonald's progressive HR practices. 
 
Accepting his award in a graduation ceremony at the University's flagship campus in Hendon, north London, he said:  "I am deeply honoured and excited to have received this doctorate, particularly from the University of Middlesex because of its forward-thinking approach to learning in the workplace. 

"I've lectured at its flagship Work Based Learning campus in London, which offers tailored learning programmes to organisations and these are values are aligned what we offer our people at McDonald's.
 
He added: "At McDonald's we don't believe you leave the world of training behind when you start work.  In a customer-led business like ours we need our people to deliver consistent, high-quality customer service in our restaurants.  They'll deliver this if they are engaged and get something out of coming to work every day."
