Eden Foodservice achieves Food for Life Partnership Silver Catering Mark

28th April 2010, 10:29am

Eden Foodservice has become the first catering company to achieve the Food for Life Partnership Silver Catering Mark for a group contract.

The company has worked in partnership with Croydon Council to achieve the accreditation for 96 primary and special schools, recognising greater use of fresh, seasonal and organic ingredients including high welfare meat and sustainable fish.

A detailed auditing process has been undertaken to ensure the company meets the necessary criteria for the Silver Mark, serving the required levels of local, organic and fair trade food. This includes Freedom Food chicken and free range eggs whilst avoiding fish that appears on the Marine Conservation Society "Fish to Avoid" list.

Simon James, managing director of Eden Foodservice, commented: "We have an ongoing commitment to providing high quality school meals and promoting food education, so initiatives such as the Food for Life Catering Mark form an important part of business strategy.

"The accreditation is recognition of the hard work and dedication of our team and Croydon Council to develop an infrastructure that delivers healthy and appealing menus using only the best available ingredients."

The Food for Life catering mark is a Soil Association accreditation scheme split into three tiers – bronze, silver and gold – to help leading caterers provide fresh, additive-free and responsible food to their customers. The catering mark logo will appear on all Eden Foodservice menus used within Croydon schools.
