Education change at Compass

6th March 2009, 10:20am

Compass Group has launched its food offering under the brand Chartwells for all existing and new clients in the education sector.

This now accounts for one in 15 school meals in state primary and secondary schools.

The Chartwells' offer focuses on meeting and exceeding nutritional standards, educating students in a fun way about food choices and healthy eating, and implementing purchasing policies that focus on local sourcing, ethical products, and a sustainable future.

Chartwells' commitment to a healthy lifestyle is demonstrated through its involvement in the pilot program for the 2009 nutrition-based food standards for secondary schools at Heathside Secondary School.

Tony Byrne, business director Chartwells, Compass Group UK & Ireland, said: "The changes that have taken place have resulted in a food service offer that is unrecognisable from five years ago, and therefore it's the right time to bring all of our education business under one brand. It will ensure all of our existing and potential clients can easily identify who we are and what we stand for."

"Through combining the expertise of nutritionists and executive chefs with best practice international programmes, we have defined a new focus for the education catering sector through Chartwells. We have started to roll out our 'eat learn live' programme3 which focuses on nutritional standards, great tasting food, learning through experiencing, health and safety, and sustainability."
