Eleven schools to compete at Taste of Grampian

Eleven schools will be battling it out in the primary and secondary contests at Taste of Grampian next month for the cook of the year title.

Four school cooks will also be competing in the event, which is being held at Inverurie's Thainstone Centre on 7 June.

 

Primary pupils have been challenged to develop a healthy packed lunch. Short listed primaries are Barthol Chapel, Rothienorman, Drumoak Premnay, Foveran, Midmar and Walker Road in Torry.

 

Short-listed academies for secondaries schools are Kemnay, Inverurie and Peterhead. These pupils will be expected to create a two-course for an active teenager using ingredients from Grampain.

 

The pupil finalists from each of the schools will be cooking their meal at Taste of Grampian.

 

The Grampian School Cook of the Year final has four finalists – Jenny Croucher, of Tyrie, Elaine Murray, of Auchterellon, Janette Shepherd, from Fishermoss at Portlethen , and Tracey Walker of Laurencekirk primary.

 

Meanwhile the school cooks task will be to prepare a two-course meal for an 11-year-old on a budget of 80p using local produce.

 

Celebrity chefs Simon Rimmer and Tony Tobin will also be giving demonstrations throughout the event.

 

Taste of Grampian is being held in association with the McLeish Brothers delicatessen and convenience store chain. It is being organised by the ANM Group, Aberdeenshire Council, the Grampian Food.
