Eurest secures £50m Heathrow contract
6th March 2008, 11:01am
Airport operator BAA has awarded contract caterer Eurest a five-year catering services deal worth £50 million in total turnover.
The contract sees a 90-strong Eurest team providing catering and hospitality for the BAA and other employees to be based at Heathrow Terminal 5.
Facilities have been introduced through January and February ahead of the opening of the state-of-the-art new terminal on 26th March 2008.
Healthy food will be heavily featured on the menu along with plenty of fresh ingredients.
There are two Ritazza barista service coffee bars and three amigo convenience shops covering over 1,800m2. Some outlets will be open around the clock in the busy terminal.
The largest restaurant will provide 4,000 covers and incorporates six servery areas, a grab & go shop and Utopia - a premium bar offering a changing selection of beverages, cereals and fruits in the morning, and tapas and premium light snacks throughout the day.
On the lunch menu are a roast joint of the day, two meat and one vegetarian mains, three vegetables of the day, a salad bar and two fresh soups of the day.
The emphasis is on traditional and home cooked favourites, such as fishermen's pie topped with a Maris Piper mash, steak and Guinness sausages served with colcannon, and garlic and rosemary studded shoulder of lamb served with mint sauce. Diners have an array of 22 items to choose from on the salad bar.
Throughout the day, employees can choose from a selection of barista served beverages, paninis, ciabattas, mezzalunas and pastries at the two Ritazza coffee bars, or grab made-to-order sandwiches with hot and cold fillings at the Delite Deli.
For convenience items, the three amigo shops offer hot and cold drinks, snacks, confectionary and a range of distress items from 6am to 7pm.
Paying consideration to the environment, customers will be encouraged to separate waste into glass, cardboard, tin, plastic, organic and general for recycling purposes, with the Eurest team also separating waste behind the scenes.
Liz Church, operations performance leader for Eurest, is delighted with the new contract: "This highlights the excellent working partnership we have with BAA, who we have provided catering for at other Heathrow terminals since 1997 as well as during the Terminal 5 build. We look forward to providing exciting and innovative catering and hospitality offers at these fantastic new facilities."
Catherine Peachey, Head of Category for Food and Beverage at BAA Retail says: "We have worked with Eurest for a number of years and are delighted they have been chosen to cater for the brand new Terminal 5. They will be offering a vast range of food and beverages and we are sure there will be something for everyone."
