First aid training specifically for restaurants

28th June 2007, 12:06pm

St John Ambulance has introduced a first aid training course specifically tailored towards people that work in restaurants and kitchens.

There are an estimated 15,000 non-reported accidents in the catering industry every year resulting in 55 people picking up injuries everyday.

Alan Powell, the head of Training for St John Ambulance London District explained why the course has been developed: "We recognise that with the increasing number of restaurants within London, the need for a tailored first aid course within this industry is essential."

New workers are twice as likely to have an accident than their more experienced colleagues and the course aims to cut this number down.

Students will learn about risk, incident management, hygiene, sprains, strains, burns, bleeds, choking and CPR.

The course takes place in London over one day and arms students with the knowledge needed to deal with first aid issues in the restaurant or kitchen for both staff and customers.
