Food and Drink Federation open awards entry

7th April 2008, 10:55am

Marking the fifth anniversary of its Community Partnership Awards, the Food and Drink Federation (FDF) has opened the entry for its 2008 Awards.

The awards provide a showcase for the sector's widespread activities in Corporate Social Responsibility.

Heading this year's panel of judges will be Sir Don Curry, Chair of the Government's Sustainable Farming and Food Implementation Group.

He will be joined by Professor Robert Pickard, Chairman of Which?, Robert Tate, from Business in the Community, Lorraine Hendle, Publishing Director of The Grocer and Julian Hunt, FDF's Director of Communications.

The Community Partnership Awards aim to recognise inspiring examples of food and drink companies who have had a significantly positive impact on the everyday lives of people living in the community in which they operate, through their contributions to local schools and hospitals, sponsorship of community sports activities, cultural and civic projects and other community involvement.

Julian Hunt, FDF Director of Communications, said: "Our industry has a long history of implementing schemes which help to educate, inspire and develop local communities across the UK and this year marks the fifth anniversary of our Awards, which reward this fantastic but often unsung work. I look forward to hearing about the latest initiatives and encourage companies of all sizes to enter."

The categories for this year's Awards reflect the range of initiatives currently organised around the country:

Local Community: activities specifically located in your local community

Workplace Community: initiatives which specifically target or benefit employees of your own company

Culture, Media and Sport: culture, media and sport related initiatives which work for any community around the UK

Education: local or national education specific initiatives

The judges will select a Gold, Silver and Bronze winner for each category and the winners will be announced at a luncheon in London on Tuesday 28 October 2008.

Visit the FDF website at www.fdf.org.uk/cpa for further information and an entry form.
