Food safety support service launched to help caterers

13th April 2010, 8:13am

The European Safety Bureau, an independent food safety and health & safety consultancy providing professional support and training services to clients in the food, catering, hotel, leisure and retail industries, has a new Mobilisation Support Audit.

The service has been developed to address some of the problems that businesses often face when setting up a new catering operation, such as:

• Concerns about standards of structure and equipment at the new location

• Difficulty in addressing safety issues adequately or quickly enough due to the operational pressures involved in mobilising a new operation.

The service will be of particular interest to businesses in the contract catering and hotel sectors or, indeed, any industries where new site openings are a regular occurrence.

Derek Gardner, The Bureau's chief executive, said: "At a time when the compensation culture is an ever-present threat and businesses are facing both rising insurance premiums and an increasing risk of costly civil litigation, we have identified a need to help clients during those critical, first few days of a new operation. This is when there is significant potential for non-compliance with current food safety and health & safety legislation and, consequently, the business is at greatest risk. Our new Mobilisation Support Audit will help to reduce this risk."

Since Spring 2009, the Bureau has embarked on a business development programme which has already resulted in the acquisition of many new clients including: The Firoka Group of Hotels, The London Hostel Association, English Rose Hotels, Whites Bar & Restaurant, Gravetye Manor Hotel, Intercontinental Park Lane Hotel, The University of Sheffield, Restaurants at Work, Charlton House, Chester Boyd, BSkyB and the Honourable Society of Lincoln's Inn.
