Billy Cunningham
Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust

Since his appointment as trust catering manager in 2003 he has taken all the patient and staff feeding back in-house at no extra cost, introduced a new menu regime for elderly care patients based on smaller amounts of food more often, achieved patient satisfaction scores of 92.8% for catering and increased income from the staff and visitor feeding operation by 50%. Not only that but he has been a keen participant in the Yorkshire Forward project and now uses Yorkshire beef plus locally grown fruit and vegetables, offers 100% Fair Trade tea, coffee and fruit juices in staff and visitor catering outlets and was responsible for the recruitment and training of 18 ward catering supervisors when the ward catering service was brought back in-house last year. In June last year he also organised a public food tasting session in the hospital foyer that not only won public approval for the food but generated positive publicity for the trust.
