The Scheme is organised by Springboard UK and offers long term mentoring support from members of The Savoy Society to Higher Education students studying towards their Hospitality Management degree programmes at Colleges and Universities.
The Scheme is built on the belief that if the student is studying towards and aiming for a successful career in the industry, being mentored will enhance his or her chances of success now and into the future through the guidance, expertise and contacts that a member of The Savoy Society can provide.
Westminster Kingsway College student Becki Fong participated in the 2009 scheme and her mentor was Cecilia Rydstrom of Hospitality Training.
Becki has been studying for the Foundation Degree in Hospitality Management. She said: "I was really excited to be chosen to participate in this scheme by my lecturers at Westminster Kingsway College. My business understanding has improved and I have been able develop my time management, analysis, critical thinking, team working, communication and leadership skills both through the workshops on the scheme and through my relationship with my industry mentor. I hope that my mentor, Cecilia Rydstrom will be able to guide me, not only through my student years, but also in my post-education years. In return, it would be great if I could grow into somebody that Cecilia is proud of mentoring."
The industry mentors supporting this scheme are life long members of The Savoy Society and have gained a reputation of excellence from well established careers in the hospitality industry.
Stuart Johnson, General Manager of Brown's Hotel and Chairman of The Savoy Society Mentoring Scheme said: "The second year of the program continues to show how much energy and enthusiasm is shown by all involved, both the new students and mentors echoed how much value the scheme is to the future managers of our industry."
For the 2010 scheme, Westminster Kingsway College Hospitality Management students Sara Mohammed and Martyna Poniewierka will be representing the College.
Clare Mannall, Programme Manager for Higher Education at Westminster Kingsway College said: "We are really pleased that our Hospitality Management students have been selected to participate in the Savoy Scheme once again as they benefit greatly from the mentorship and industry contacts that it provides."
