ISS Mediclean switches to PG tips tea

25th September 2009, 10:46am

ISS Mediclean has begun selling PG tips tea in its 125 outlets around the country in a move the company described as an “extension of its commitment to sustainability”.

Since August 2009, defence and NHS Units, run by ISS Mediclean, have been offering the "ethical beverage" to patients, staff and visitors.

Andy Jones, service development director, ISS Mediclean explained more: "Social responsibility is an integral part of our business and is at the heart of everything we do. We wanted to ensure that these values were being transferred to all areas of the business including our drink offering, so we made the decision to switch to PG tips tea.

"It's very important to us to work in partnership with our suppliers to ensure we deliver quality products to our customers. PG tips delivers on three key pillars; quality, brand and ethical, which is why we chose it. It sounds simple, but by offering an ethical brand of tea we can do our bit to help the environment and help our customers to give something back."

The Rainforest Alliance is an international, non-profit conservation organisation that Unilever, the owners of PG tips, began working with in 2007. Over 50% of PG tips tea already comes from Rainforest Alliance Certified farms and it is working towards being fully certified by 2010.

Jones added: "Staff and customers have been asking for a sustainable brand of tea so we're pleased that we can live up to their expectations. Brands are very important in this business as both patients and visitors seek comfort from a cup of tea. They want to see a brand that they are familiar with and trust and the fact that they are contributing to the welfare of others and giving something back to the environment makes them feel better."
