24th August 2010, 8:05am

Jockey Club Catering, part of Compass Group UK & Ireland and Jockey Club Racecourses, has announced the appointment of Colin Bailey, as the new managing director.

Bailey will take up this position in September to lead the catering arm of the Jockey Club Racecourse business, worth £500 million turnover over 10 years, and consisting 14 racecourses across the UK.

Bailey joins Compass from Principle Hayley Hotels where he held the position of group operations director. Prior to this, he held senior positions with the De Vere and Village hotel groups.

He said: "Joining Jockey Club Catering is the ideal progression for my career. I believe my experience within the hotel and hospitality industry will enable me to further develop Jockey Club Racecourses' bespoke offer and build on the strength of this highly regarded and unique brand. I am very excited to join the team."

This appointment follows Bob Reeves' retirement from the business in November 2010, after 10 years with Compass as Managing Director for Racing.

Lord Daresbury, Chairman of Jockey Club Catering, said: "We are delighted to welcome Colin to the Jockey Club Catering team. Bob has set a impressive standard of delivery across the Jockey Club Racecourses estate. With Colin's expertise we look forward to continuing this consistency in service standards and ensuring the partnership continues to prosper and grow."

Matthew Thompson, Managing Director of Compass Group UK & Ireland's Sport, Leisure and Hospitality sector, added: "Our strength is our ability to deliver a proposal that meets the individual needs of each racecourse within the Jockey Club Racecourses group."
