LYONS SEAFOODS PRESENT NEW HAND PEELED SHELLFISH

2nd August 2007, 2:15pm

Lyons Seafoods, fish and speciality chilled and frozen seafood company is launching two new shellfish products to UK foodservice sector.

With the weather heating up and punters looking for lighter menu options Lyons' Extra Large Hand Peeled Coldwater Prawns and Extra Large Crayfish Tails, available in four different pack sizes (120g, 500g, 900g and 1500g) deliver a flavoursome seasonal alternative.

The new products will be a step change in product quality compared to anything that currently exists, as Paul Murray, Foodservice Director for Lyons Seafoods, explains: "The brined shellfish market in the UK is currently driven by a low price/low quality spiral.

"This is at odds with what is happening in chilled & frozen shellfish & does not reflect what consumers want. Because the new range of extra large prawns & crayfish are hand peeled rather than machine peeled they have a far superior flavour & texture. Additionally, & unlike most other brined shellfish products in the UK, our brine does not contain saccharine which means a much fresher "straight from the sea" taste."

All the products in the Lyons Seafoods Brined range have a 60 day shelf life, and offer caterers the perfect alternative to frozen shellfish. Just drain & serve is often far easier to manage at peak trading times than defrosting frozen prawns. It can help minimise waste & standardise portion sizes.

Paul Murray continues: "The new brined product range will appeal across the foodservice industry with increasingly numbers of health conscious consumers eating prawns and crayfish out of home and both products benefit from being naturally low in fat and high in Omega 3 and Vitamins"
