Less than a week until Freefrom Food Awards revealed

There are just days left until the winner of this year's Freefrom Food Awards will be announced.

The prestigious awards will be presented by Antony Worrall Thompson at a presentation party on May 12th (during Allergy Week) at Burgh House in North London.

The FreeFrom Food sector has grown massively over the last few years. Turnover has doubled in three years growing from £90 million in 2006 to an estimated £195 million by 2010 and £350 million by 2012.

The FreeFrom Food Awards were launched last year by specialist food allergy magazine, Foods Matter (http://www.foodsmatter.com), based on the monthly tasting panels they run for the benefit of their readers on each group of 'free-from' foods.

Categories for the awards include: Dairy and/or gluten-free ice cream, puddings and desserts, gluten-free pies, flans and savoury sauces, gluten-free savoury biscuits and snacks, and breakfast cereals.

In addition, there will be an innovation award for the best new free-from food in 2009.

The judging panel not only looked at the taste of the products but of how many major allergens they excluded, their nutritional profile, their packaging and their value for money.
