Manchester City stadium catering boss treats Stockport volunteers

Volunteers at a community cafe in Stockport have been treated to etiquette training by a top boss at the City of Manchester Stadium.

Neil Worcester, catering and operations manager at City, spent an afternoon with 10 volunteers, aged from 21 to 64, at The Coach House Community Cafe, training the rookies on how to serve the perfect cream tea.

From presentation to serving and accompaniments, Neil covered the A-Z of cream tea etiquette to ensure the tearoom style cafe serves the perfect cream tea.

The Coach House Community Cafe has been set up to provide voluntary employment opportunities to help volunteers gain the confidence and skills for further paid employment.

Neil said: "It was fantastic to meet the volunteers and train them on cream tea etiquette. Cream tea is quintessentially an English tradition, and as such should be served correctly. It's a real treat for people to enjoy, so we want to ensure that the overall experience of cream tea at The Community Coach House Café is one that people will want to come back and experience time after time. The volunteers were enthusiastic and I am sure the café will be a huge success."

Volunteer, Mike Cogley, 44, from Cheadle, Manchester, (pictured sitting) said: "I really enjoyed the training, especially learning new skills and learning how to serve customers professionally. I am really looking forward to the café opening and putting what we have learnt today into practice."

Volunteer, Dawn Beckman, 31, from Woodley, Manchester, (pictured standing) concluded: "The training was very interesting and I can't wait for the café to open when I will be able to bake fresh scones every day."
