22nd April 2008, 12:06pm
McCain has launched a recipe book featuring innovative recipes for school caterers.
Created by McCain Business Development Chef, Donnie Munro and independent nutritionists, the McCain Cool School Food recipe book is based around children's favourite foods to entice them back into the canteen as part of the SFT and the Million Meals campaign.
There are 20 recipes for meat, fish and vegetarian options.
The recipe book also provides helpful information for caterers about primary and secondary servings making it easier to scale up or scale down.
Adrian Greaves, McCain Associate Director of Foodservice comments: "The McCain Purely Potato recipe book will allow meal planners to keep menus fresh and interesting, encouraging school meal uptake. The new products, which are water-blanched are an ideal starchy food, unrestricted under Food Based Standards.
"McCain developed the recipe book in response to customers requests for help, particularly regarding vegetarian menus where popular dishes that meet nutritional standards can be a challenge to create."
Examples of the menu ideas contained within the McCain Cool School Food recipe book include:
- Spanish style chicken and potato bravas bake with rice and green beans
- Baked Mediterranean fish pie with seasonal root vegetables
- Baked Bean Burgers with spicy wedges and creamy coleslaw
- Chimichangas with sweet chilli sauce, spicy dice and salad
McCain Purely Potato products are ideal for school caterers to use because they:
- are quick frozen in ready-peeled slice, dice and wedges
- require no preparation;
- contain no allergens;
- are water blanched to provide meal planners with a non fried product; and
- are an ideal starchy food for use as an ingredient in meals or as a side.
McCain is giving away free copies of its recipe book.
