Nestle Professional supports the new Academy of Hospitality Great Britain

10th February 2010, 8:25am

Nestle Professional has announced it will be supporting the new Association of Hospitality Great Britain catering academy which launched this week.

The first of its kind in the UK, the Academy enables chefs, hotel managers and hospitality staff to train within a fully operating hotel restaurant and conference, training and meeting facility.

Over the year it is expected that 260 apprentices will complete an Apprenticeship, and with plans to add a second Academy site, this figure could reach 500.

The Academy is a joint venture between hospitality brand the Alternative Hotel Group, and the National Apprenticeship Service, working in partnership with Stockport Council and Connexions.

Speaking from the event, Sue Price, North West regional director of the National Apprenticeship Service, said: "Apprenticeships are the optimal way of training, developing and skilling people for the future, helping businesses secure a supply of people with the skills and qualities they need.

"And who knows, in the future these apprentices may run some of the country's finest restaurants, bars or hotels.  I'm confident that this groundbreaking venture will be of benefit to the whole of the hospitality sector."

Chief executive of the Alternative Hotel Group, Richard Balfour-Lynn, added: "Our sole intention is to change people's lives and, whilst doing so, we will build an amazing talent pool of future hospitality stars."

Neil Stephens, managing director, Nestlé Professional, commented: "With the AHGB programme at Cheadle House already oversubscribed, we have high hopes for the young chefs taking part and we look forward to providing our full support.  As a foundation growth partner, Nestlé Professional will help fund the pupils' equipment and chef whites, ensuring they are kitted-out to take advantage of this exceptional opportunity."
