New area manager for contract caterer Wilson Vale

5th December 2011, 9:00am

Emma Powell, a Wilson Vale chef manager, has become the company’s first female area manager.

Her new role officially started on 1st November and she is now responsible for a small portfolio of clients in the Midlands. A chef for the past 13 years, Powell joined Wilson Vale as a relief chef manager in May 2010.

She commented: "I think this is what makes Wilson Vale different to other contractors. There's huge involvement with the on-site teams and I'm really excited about working with them and sharing ideas."

Powell will take her lead from Carolyne Vale, co-founder and managing director the company, who is out in the business every day ensuring that food and service standards remain high, and is often found in her whites in the kitchen.

Carolyne Vale commented: "We have many talented men within the company who should also be celebrated and acknowledged! It's really about finding a balance and ensuring that we develop our people and reward their creativity and commitment, regardless of whether they are male or female.

"At Wilson Vale, we always recruit the best person for the job, regardless of their gender or race, such as Emma Powell who was ready and waiting for this challenge."

Powell has been selected by Wilson Vale to take part in a Women 1st Step Up programme for developing managers.
