Nine year old Lucy Narramore from Mill Hill Community Primary School has won a recent cookery competition run by North Yorkshire County Caterers, the county's school meals service.

The online competition, which Narramore completed on the County Caterer's My School Lunch website, required her to answer cookery questions and to say who she would most like to cook for. She said she would love to prepare her mum a roast dinner.

As the competition winner Narramore won a baking set and a cook's outfit. She was also presented with a certificate by County Councillor Jim Clark, North Yorkshire's executive member for Schools and chair of the North Yorkshire Catering Board.

Cllr Clark said: "We hope the website encourages children to take an interest in nutrition and enjoy their school meals. Nearly half of the county's primary pupils now take a school lunch, beating Government targets. Our policy of cooking meals from scratch in our school kitchens using fresh, locally sourced ingredients is certainly proving popular."
