14th January 2009, 11:02am

Northern Foods has been chosen to serve British Airways with in-flight meals for its short haul catering contract from London Heathrow, starting in April 2010.

Northern Foods will work in partnership with DHL Exel Supply Chain, which will manage the supply chain for the entire in-flight service from kitchen to cabin.

The contract, which will run for 10 years, will see over 13 million meals supplied, comprising ready meals, sandwiches and salads.

Stefan Barden, chief executive of Northern Foods, said: "With our track record of making great tasting food that consumers want to buy again and again and again, this contract represents a new opportunity for Northern Foods, to serve another world class customer like British Airways.

"The contract demonstrates our clear desire to create new business models which change the economics of today's food manufacturing base."
