Olive Catering Services Ltd has been crowned with the The Lunch! Contract Caterer of the Year title at the first ever lunch! trade show, which kicked off last week (26-27 September) at Old Billingsgate Market in London.

The caterer fought off stiff competition from runner-up Elior UK of Hounslow, Middlesex.

Other companies to pick up an award were Marks & Spencer, which won The Multiple lunch! Retailer of the Year 2008 award, and Amano Cafes Ltd and Grazing, both walking away with the Independent lunch! Retailer of the Year award.

John Clifton, events manager at Diversified Business Communications, said: "The 'food to go' market is one of the most diverse, innovative and successful parts of the UK's catering industry – it's great to be able to celebrate this multi-billion pound industry.

"These are all companies at the forefront of the industry; whose pioneering innovations and commitment to excellence have helped make this sophisticated sector just what it is today."

As well as covering food and drinks and their ingredients, Lunch! included information on equipment, interior design, furniture, packaging and other products needed to run a successful business.

Key speakers who took part in the show included Jim Winship, British Sandwich Association, Jill Sutherland, Taste UK, Jesper Toft, Sandwich International, and Robert Topping, Compass Group.

Almost 2,200 industry professionals attended the inaugural event.
