Over £5 million boost for West Sussex schools

19th August 2008, 11:52am

West Sussex County Council has gained a £5.7 million grant to help more primary schools serve up hot meals and to develop kitchens at secondary schools, according to recent reports.

The funding will provide kitchen space for all West Sussex primary schools which do not have the space for the equipment needed to deliver meals.

A board will meet in the future to assess how much money schools will need for kitchen space.

Cllr Pat Arculus, county cabinet member for children and young people's services explained that the Steamplicity meals, which were introduced into primary schools last year, had been a huge success.

Arculus continued: "We know many schools would like the service but do not have the space for the equipment so this grant and the money the county council will add is going to be very welcoming news."

The Steamplicity system, delivered by Scolarest was used steam pressure to ensure food retained its maximum nutritional goodness.
