Pick ‘n’ Mix Desserts for schools

23rd July 2008, 2:29pm

Apetito has launched a new range of desserts which are specifically designed for children and are within the required nutritional specification.

The new dessert range enables caterers to keep menu planning within the £2 per meal barrier.

It offers a 'pick and mix' solution to allow school caterers to offer an interesting and varied offering to kids.

With a selection of five fillings and five toppings, children can choose from a total of 57 desserts including Fruit Salad, Mixed Fruit Pie and Apple Pie.

The fillings and toppings come in separate foils giving caterers the chance to create a combination of different desserts.

Choices of toppings include Crumble, Oaty Crunch and Chocolate Sponge along with a range of fillings such as Apple, Pear, Apricot, Peach and Mixed Fruit.

All of these desserts contain no hydrogenated fats and are free from artificial colours, flavourings, preservatives and sweeteners.

David Griffiths, national account manager education of Apetito, explained: "We have carried out extensive research with local authorities and thoroughly tested our products in schools with children."

He continued: "The result is a range of desserts that we know will be enjoyed by the children and most importantly, allow Local Education Authorities to adhere to both the new nutritional guidelines and the £2 budget."
