Prue Leith to discuss the world’s imbalanced diet

19th March 2008, 3:28pm

Prue Leith, chair of the School Food Trust will discuss food and the challenges children may face in years to come throughout the developing world at a forum being held in April.

Organised by the Oxford International Biomedical Centre (OIBC) and the Royal Institute, the discussion will be hosted by a number of food experts including Prue, who's debate is titled 'Access, not excess: Novel ways to nourish the world'.

Prue will call upon examples from the current rules and regulations in place, which aim to improve diet and combat child obesity.

Dr Charles Pasternak, Director of the OIBC explained why the forum is taking place and its objectives: "We urgently need to find solutions to meet the challenges facing the world's food supply, a growing global population and an ever expanding obesity epidemic.

"This symposium will tackle all these issues head on and discuss some controversial solutions including GM food production. We look forward to welcoming journalists to join Prue Leith and other experts to find out what can be done."

Discussion will include:
  • Why we need GM food production now
  • Why low-cost solutions are being ignored in Africa
  • What is wrong with the UK's attitude to food and what needs to change
  • Why the obesity issue must be tackled in schools
Event date: 1st April 2008
Time: 9.15am – 5.00pm
Venue: Magdalen College School, Cowley Place, Oxford OX4 1DZ
