Real Food Festival to launch new variety of potato

1st April 2008, 10:21am

Organisers of the Real Food Festival, which is set to kick off at London's Earl's Court later this month, will be launching a new variety of potato which grows without a skin.

The new potato, which will be available to buy in stores across the country from 10 April, will be revealed at the Gala launch evening at the Festival on 24 April.

Philip Lowery, festival director, commented: "We have been working closely with several farmers to create something that will appeal to consumers with busy lifestyles. Peeling potatoes is a chore that puts people off cooking potatoes and with the new skinless variety we believe this will encourage people to get back into the kitchen."

The event, which takes place from 24-27 April, is also running a competition to find a name for the new variety of potato.
