Rob Rees launches school FEAST bus in Shropshire

18th October 2010, 11:31am

School Food Trust chairman Rob Rees will be launching a specially-converted bus on Wednesday (20 October) to deliver School FEAST training in healthy cooking to schools and families in Shropshire.

Equipped with a full kitchen and learning space, the bus is the latest training facility at Telford School FEAST (Food Skills and Excellence Training).

The bus will offer extended training opportunities on-site to school catering teams. Also, as part of a regional promotion of school lunches, which are now governed by nutrient-based standards, the bus will enable cooks to produce meals directly from the bus, in schools which don't have their own kitchens.

School Food Trust chair Rob Rees said: "School cooks are at the heart of our school food revolution, transforming lunches and children's health, so they deserve the best training.

"Telford's new School FEAST bus will play a key role in nurturing the school cooks of the future – enhancing the skills of the kitchen staff to benefit the region's children, helping ensure they eat a healthy lunch every day."

Cabinet member for children and young people at Telford and Wrekin Council Councillor Stephen Burrell added: "The official launch of our new School FEAST cooking bus builds on the success of our Let's Cook Together project and represents a further successful development in the partnership between the council, NHS Telford and Wrekin and the School Food Trust.

"The bus will enable us to extend and expand our training to school caterers, and to further promote to families the importance of eating healthily and discovering what fun they can have by cooking together."

Telford and Wrekin Council, in partnership with Bournville College, Birmingham, is part of the national network of 29 training centres and partnerships comprising School FEAST.
