A new report from Heinz has revealed that sauces market in the UK is worth £503 million, as the brand celebrates its 140th anniversary.

Every week, a massive 86% of us Brits give our food a good smothering of sauce and every year, as a nation, we consume 81,500 tonnes.

The UK sauces market has grown by 9.4% in the last year alone.

Other findings revealed that in spite of a summer of grey weather and an equally grey financial forecast, HP BBQ Sauce still managed to grow by 46% last year.

Paul Hartley, author of a series of Heinz sauce inspired cookbooks said: "As a nation, we're sauce mad and rightly so – there's a reason for its longevity: one should never underestimate the versatility of sauce. Some the most delicious meals can be created on a budget without compromising our culinary experiences."
