Sodexo and Eton College raise over £15,000 for action against hunger campaign

Sodexo and Eton College celebrated their 10th annual charity golf event by raising a massive £15,500 for Sodexo's STOP Hunger campaign and local community projects.

Sodexo has provided catering services at Eton College for over 40 years, where the annual charity golf day has become a firm fixture in the calendar raising a total of £77,500 over the past 10 years.

Over 40 people, including Sodexo's suppliers, employees and sponsors from across the industry, took part in the event on Eton College's own nine-hole golf course. All entry fees and donations collected during the tournament go to Sodexo's STOP Hunger campaign (which supports projects working towards combating poor nutrition in local communities) and various charitable organisations in the Eton area.

The night before the 27-hole golf challenge began, all players tucked into a six-course dinner which included tomato and black olive ravioli, a study of beef and for dessert coconut milk with lime. The dinner was prepared by Sodexo's catering team at the college and sponsored by some of the company's key suppliers – M&J Seafoods, Russell Hume, Unilever, Premier Foods and Major International.

After dinner players were invited to bid at an auction for items such as a weekend break for two in Ireland, traditional afternoon tea at London's Park Lane Hotel and a barbeque for 20 people at Royal Ascot. All items were donated to the auction which raised a grand total of £9,500, another record-breaking amount for the yearly auction.

The following day, participants took part in a nine-hole Texas scramble in the morning and an 18-hole stableford competition in the afternoon.

Ian Mort, Sodexo's general manager at Eton College and organiser of the event, said: "Every year I am amazed by the friendship and generosity of those that attend just to make every day a better day for those less fortunate. It really was a fantastic day."
