TV Chef Alan Coxon's Historic Food Range Has Scooped Another Huge Win

23rd February 2009, 2:43pm

Alan Coxon's Historic Food range has again wowed judges and scooped a huge win. Alan, voted among the world's top 10 chefs in a BBC poll, won Midlands Innovation of the Year category for his Historic Food Range.

Alan was presented his award at the gala dinner at the NEC Metropole Hotel in Birmingham on Friday (January 30th). Organiser Harj Sandher of Leamington Spa-based UK Special Events said this year's competition had attracted a large number of high quality entrants, so Alan was delighted with the win. Digby, Lord Jones of Birmingham Kt, who was awarded the Lifetime achievement award, said the products "were outstanding, innovative and highly recommended".

This award follows the recent success for his Historic Vinaigres (part of the Historic Food range) at the Excellence in Food and Drink awards, where he won the "Innovation" award and the "Gold" award. The Historic Food range explores the flavours and ingredients that once adorned tables of the mighty Roman Emperors, Medieval Knights and Ancient Greek temples. Alan has spent the last ten years developing his Historic Vinaigre range, which now form the basis of the range extension.

Prepared using traditional and natural production methods, acidulated over oak wine barrels and using only the finest quality natural ingredients, these unique products are stored in bottles created and designed by Alan himself. His aim was to develop a range of historic products based on the three Vinaigre's to bring to life recipes and ingredients from the past.

The range includes the Mediaeval Ale Gar, a rich dark warm vinegar which makes great dressings, dips and sauces and is a great alternative to balsamic vinegar. The Ancient Greek Vinaigre is a light, floral vinegar which can be used in oriental dishes and stir-fries as well as salad dressings or as marinade. Finally, the Roman Vinaigre is spicy and floral and can be used in egg-based sauces, salsas, pickles or as a marinade for your meats. You can also reduce it to serve as a fantastic drizzle with both sweet and savoury dishes! Each product holds unique combinations of flavours that will enhance modern as well as traditional cooking! Available as a gift set, which includes all three vinegars or separately, they are the perfect gift for anyone who enjoys great food.
